Our Sustainability Story

At Shadowbox Studios, sustainability is at the heart of our operations. We are committed to reducing our environmental impact by embracing energy-efficient technologies, minimizing waste, and prioritizing eco-friendly materials in every phase of production. Our goal is to set a new standard in the studio operations industry by ensuring that filming runs smoothly and efficiently and is sustainable.

By integrating these sustainable practices into our operations, we are working to take action towards a greener future. We believe that responsible filmmaking is essential for a sustainable world, and we are proud to lead the charge in making environmentally conscious choices as a part of every story we tell.

Environmental and Economic Impact

  • Shadowbox Studios is located inside the perimeter, 10 miles from Atlanta Hartsfield Airport and 15 miles from premier housing locations for cast and crew.  This reduces the commute time to the studio.
  • Our stage complex is laid out to allow basecamps adjacent to the stages on all four sides.  This allows for easy power connections and eliminates the need for generators.
  • Onsite EV charging stations.
  • Shadowbox Studios partners with local Food Truck vendors to conduct business onsite, which reduces the need for crew to drive off-campus.
  • Shadowbox has created virtual tours of all our facilities.  This eliminates the need for productions to travel to the campuses for tours.
We partner with Bee Downtown to manage two honeybee hives that contribute to local biodiversity.
Shadowbox partners with multiple food donation vendors and encourages productions to utilize these services:

Utilizes clean energy to reduce our carbon footprint.

Eliminates the need for thousands of plastic water bottles a year.

Installing energy-efficient LED lighting to reduce the kilowatt hours for lighting by 60%.

Covers standard recyclable materials to minimize landfill contribution.
  • Motor and Cooking Oil – Reduces waste by repurposing used oils.
  • Light bulbs – Properly recycled to avoid mercury and other pollutants.
  • Batteries and Electronics – Collected and recycled safely to prevent hazardous waste.
  • Aerosol Cans – Recycled in a way that mitigates environmental impact.
  • Ink Cartridges – Recycled responsibly to prevent chemical contamination.

Pallets are donated to the DeKalb County Fire Rescue training facility.

Shadowbox Studios utilizes its two retention ponds for irrigation.

Shadowbox mandates that products and materials that another production can utilize are not thrown away during wrap-out.  We consolidate and store these materials and present them to incoming productions – no costs to productions:

  • Building materials
  • Office supplies (Paper, Ink, etc.)
  • Wardrobe supplies and clothing
  • FF&E
Shadowbox launched a mobile application and portal for productions to utilize when on site.  All documents, protocols, floor plans, etc., are at the production’s fingertips.  Eliminates the need for print media, which reduces paper waste.
Our accounting department utilizes electronic payment options for our vendors to reduce the need for printing checks and utilizing paper envelopes.

State-of-the-art materials utilized that are environmentally friendly and non-toxic.

HVAC systems throughout the facilities are high-efficiency and contain bio-polar ionization.

Social Impact

We partner with local colleges to train students who seek an entry-level pathway to production work in large-scale film and television production.  We encourage production to hire from within the academy, which bolsters the local crew base.
